Memories of Uncle Ian

Uncle Ian was a very frequent and welcome visitor during my childhood, growing up in Helensburgh. Without fail, he would always make time to play with me, and keep me entertained – I am sure he found it tiring playing children’s board games, but he never let on.

I am also grateful for the time I managed to spend with him as an adult living in London. On my visits to Wilmington, Uncle Ian was a wonderful host. I will always remember how he would make the effort to put on a tie, and that the ‘tea table’ was never complete without flowers and a bottle of sherry!

Also on these visits, I had the pleasure of meeting several of Uncle Ian’s friends and neighbours (of which there are many!), particularly Ron who I have enjoyed getting to know over the last few years. I know how much Uncle Ian appreciated the help, support and kindness of his friends and he considered himself a very lucky man in this regard.

As my sister Susan has said, he fulfilled many roles in my family and he was so accepting and encouraging of everything we did. There are very few people who have been as considerate, kind and generous, as Uncle Ian has been to me over the years. You will be missed.
